Josh Sommerfeld

Josh joined Bain Capital Ventures in 2011. He spends the majority of his time working with and evaluating early and growth stage companies in the healthcare services, healthcare IT, and specialty diagnostics industries. Josh particularly enjoys learning about new markets and working with entrepreneurs to unlock their potential.

Prior to joining Bain Capital, Josh worked at Bain & Company in Chicago and Melbourne where he advised clients on a variety of strategic and business development issues including customer acquisition and retention, salesforce effectiveness, corporate strategy, and organizational redesign in the healthcare services, B2B IT retail, wireless telecommunications, consumer packaged goods, and integrated oil and gas industries.

He received his BA with General Honors in South Asian Languages and Civilizations from the University of Chicago in 2008. While at University of Chicago, Josh was the Investment Committee Chairman of the Blue Chips investment club where he directed the investment activities of the club’s $100K equity portfolio. As Vice President of the club, he also developed a rigorous investing education program.

Josh is from Palm Beach Gardens, FL. An Ironman triathlete, Josh constantly seeks opportunities to test his physical and creative limits.  While in search of his next ultra-endurance challenge, Josh has found more time to dedicate to fine art photography and painting. He also enjoys climbing, sailing, theater, and travel.
