David Friend

Associate, Boston

David joined Bain Capital Ventures in 2011, and is focused on early-stage and growth opportunities in software, IT, and technology-enabled businesses. He enjoys learning from entrepreneurs about innovative technology, and working with teams to build world-class companies.

Prior to Bain Capital, David was a consultant at Bain & Company focused on growth strategies for clients across a variety of industries including software, retail, and financial services. David has also worked as an analyst at a small equities hedge fund, and as a strategy associate at clothing retailer Charlotte Russe, where he helped to launch their rebranding effort.

David graduated from MIT with degrees in physics and electrical engineering. His research focused on optoelectronics including LEDs, solar cells, and lasers. He invented a patent-pending light bulb that produces idealized white light (i.e., sunlight).

David enjoys rock climbing, sailing, skiing, and other activities insurers don’t like. He has climbed at locations across the United States, including Yosemite’s Half Dome.
