Ben joined Bain Capital Ventures in 2004 and leads the Software and Infrastructure Group. Prior to joining Bain Capital Ventures, Ben was an SVP at VERITAS Software, which acquired his previous company, Precise Software Solutions (“PRSE”). At Precise, Ben was COO and CFO and helped take the Company public and grow it from $10 million to $100 million in revenue prior to selling it to VERITAS Software for $640 million. Earlier in his career, Ben was a principal investor at Allied Capital, where he focused on business services, industrial, and health care sectors.
Ben was awarded the “Exceptional Service Award” for his tenure as a political appointee in the U.S. Treasury Department working for Treasury Secretaries Lloyd Bentsen and Robert Rubin. He also served as a consultant in the Strategy Group at Mercer Management Consulting. Ben was awarded a “Ford Fellowship” to business school for his work in truck operations at Ford Motor Company. He also served in New York and Tokyo as a financial analyst in PainWebber’s Transportation Group. For his first job, Ben started his career as a salmon fly-fishing guide in Alaska.
Ben was a Harvard Scholar and graduated with honors from Harvard College. He also graduated with honors from Harvard Business School. He served as Captain of the Varsity Lacrosse team, Class Marshall (class officer), and Student Council Representative. Ben is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
As a venture capitalist, Ben has been named on the Midas list for Forbes’ “100 Most Powerful Venture Capitalists” and AlwaysOn’s “Venture Capital East 50,” which highlights the 50 individuals based in the eastern U.S. who have backed the most profitable winners during the last four years. Ben enjoys recruiting, coaching, building, and growing world class teams. His personal motto is “innovate and create.”
